Hollywood is a cruel place.
You can write some of the biggest songs ever recorded.
You can work with Cher, Aerosmith, Celine Dion and Toni Braxton.
You can receive 17 competitive Academy Award nominations.
And after nearly four decades of trying, the prize you finally manage to win in Hollywood is:
A pig.
Congratulations, Diane Warren.
The streak is over.
Sort of.
AND THE WINNER IS... WILBUR
This extraordinary tale began when a small black-and-white pig suddenly appeared running through the streets of West Hollywood.
Nobody appeared to know where he'd come from.
Nobody seemed particularly capable of catching him.
And because this happened in 2026, somebody obviously filmed the whole thing.
The footage went viral.
The pig was eventually captured and taken to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, where staff waited to see whether an owner would come forward.
Nobody did.
Normally that would mean a relatively straightforward adoption.
Unfortunately, Wilbur had committed the tactical error of becoming internet famous.
Four prospective adopters arrived wanting him.
So the shelter held a silent auction.
Somewhere, after 17 Oscar defeats, Diane Warren presumably felt a disturbance in the universe.
An awards contest she might actually win.
PLEASE GET THE PIG
Warren had seen footage of Wilbur making his bid for freedom.
Her reaction was apparently immediate.
She contacted Marcia Zwilling, managing director of the Diane Warren Foundation, with instructions that essentially amounted to:
GET. THAT. PIG.
Zwilling duly arrived at the shelter and entered the auction on Warren's behalf.
Four bidders.
One pig.
One legendary songwriter.
Finally, an envelope in Hollywood contained Diane Warren's name.
She won.
And Warren subsequently delivered perhaps the finest acceptance speech of her career:
“I lose Oscars but I won a pig.”
There really isn't much we can add to that.

SEVENTEEN NOMINATIONS. ZERO COMPETITIVE OSCARS. ONE PIG.
Warren's Academy Awards history makes this considerably funnier.
She received her first Best Original Song nomination for “Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now” from Mannequin.
That was in 1988.
She didn't win.
Then came more nominations.
And more.
And more.
Songs associated with films including Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Beyond the Lights, Marshall and The Hunting Ground have put her repeatedly within touching distance of an Oscar.
Seventeen competitive nominations.
Seventeen journeys home without the Best Original Song trophy.
The Academy did give Warren an Honorary Oscar in 2022, presumably after somebody finally noticed that repeatedly inviting the same woman to an awards ceremony and sending her home empty-handed was beginning to resemble psychological warfare.
But the competitive trophy remains elusive.
Wilbur?
First auction. Immediate victory.
The pig has an awards conversion rate Warren can only dream about.
FROM RUNNING THROUGH TRAFFIC TO GOURMET SALADS
Fortunately for Wilbur, this isn't merely a celebrity purchasing an amusing pet.
Warren is a longstanding animal advocate and her foundation supports animal welfare.
Wilbur is heading to her seven-acre animal sanctuary in Malibu, where he'll live alongside other rescued animals.
And apparently he'll be eating gourmet salads.
Let's appreciate the career trajectory here.
Saturday:
Running loose through West Hollywood while strangers chase you.
Thursday:
Private Malibu sanctuary.
Gourmet salads.
Celebrity owner.
International press coverage.
Wilbur has achieved the Los Angeles dream faster than most actors.
There are people who've spent 15 years waiting tables in Hollywood who have just discovered that the correct career strategy was apparently being a pig near Laurel Avenue.

THERE IS, HOWEVER, A WILBUR PROBLEM
There is one minor administrative difficulty.
Diane Warren already owns a pig called Wilbur.
Of course she does.
Because apparently the universe decided this story wasn't quite ridiculous enough.
That means the newly famous Wilbur may require a rebrand.
Warren has suggested another name:
Hollywood.
Which is actually perfect.
He appeared unexpectedly.
Became famous because of a viral video.
Attracted multiple interested parties.
Won an auction.
Acquired a Malibu residence.
And now spends his days eating expensive salad.
That's not a pig.
That's an influencer.
HOLLYWOOD FINALLY DELIVERS
There is something rather lovely underneath all the silliness.
A frightened little animal running through busy streets could easily have met a much worse ending.
Instead, strangers helped capture him.
A shelter looked after him.
Millions of people watched his adventure.
And now he's going somewhere specifically designed to care for rescued animals.
So everybody wins.
Wilbur gets Malibu.
The shelter gets a successful adoption.
The internet gets a happy ending.
And Diane Warren finally gets to say she defeated three other nominees.
Admittedly the prize has trotters.
But after 17 attempts?
Take the win, Diane.
Just don't put him on the mantelpiece.
