Meta has launched a subscription service called Meta One, bringing paid artificial-intelligence features and professional tools across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI.

The company says 15 million subscriptions and trials were already active during the phased introduction. Plans start at $2.99 a month for a single product, $7.99 for an individual bundle and $14.99 for creator and business bundles. UK prices, tax treatment and exact availability may differ; Meta had not published a complete sterling table in the announcement cited by Reuters.

Core app functions and basic Meta AI use will remain free. Nobody needs to subscribe merely to continue receiving family photographs, marketplace messages or a video of somebody pressure-washing a driveway at impossible volume.

What the plans include

Single products such as Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus provide app-specific enhancements. Individual bundles combine features across services with more capable or more generous AI access. Creator and business plans add verification, advanced analytics, enhanced support and tools intended to help with marketing, content and operations.

Meta says more than 50 features sit across the service and that future “agent skills” will assist small businesses and creators from content creation through optimisation. Meta One is also due to expand to the Edits video app and the company’s AI glasses.

The move turns Meta’s enormous free audience into a market for recurring revenue beyond advertising. The company reported an average of 3.6 billion daily users across its family of apps earlier this year. Persuading even a small share to pay produces a subscription business most companies would describe as the entire company.

The important questions behind the features

People need to know whether paid AI is merely faster and more generous or materially better. Usage limits, model access, data controls and cancellation terms matter more than a list of creative filters. Businesses also need clarity on whether customer conversations or uploaded assets are used to improve models and which contractual protections apply.

Verification inside a bundle deserves special attention. A badge can communicate identity, support or status, but those are different products. Platforms should explain precisely what checks were completed so users do not interpret a payment receipt as proof of trustworthiness.

The service also deepens a familiar digital divide. Social networks begin as free public squares, useful professional features accumulate, and eventually visibility or support can feel easier for those paying rent to the square’s owner. Meta says basic functions remain free, but the meaningful comparison will be how free and paid accounts perform after the launch matures.

Anyone considering a plan should wait for local pricing, check which account or business owns the subscription and export important analytics before relying on them. Creators should compare the fee with independent editing, newsletter and commerce tools rather than assuming one bundle is automatically cheaper.

Why Meta is doing this now

AI models and data centres cost enormous sums. Subscription income gives Meta another way to fund that infrastructure and makes revenue less dependent on advertising cycles. It also lets the company package features already scattered across verification, business support and creation tools into a simpler sales pitch.

Simple for Meta does not always mean simple for a household with four apps, three accounts and one card expiring next month. The company will need clear controls showing which plan covers what and preventing accidental overlap.

The OutOut verdict

Meta has spent two decades learning that every human interaction can support an advert. It has now discovered that some interactions can support a direct debit as well.

Meta One may be useful for businesses and creators who can measure the return. Everyone else should resist subscribing to a bundle because a colourful button appeared beside the inbox. The future contains enough monthly payments without paying premium rates to receive AI-generated suggestions for replying “looks lovely x”.
